What certificates does a home wifi camera need to enter the US?
For a home wifi camera, the things you must have are: FCC equipment authorization; FCC ID label; Country of origin marking.
The things you must have
- FCC equipment authorization
Your factory applies through a certification body; you'll ask for the FCC grant and ID.
- FCC ID label
Your factory prints the authorized FCC ID; you'll ask for a label photo.
- Country of origin marking
Your factory supplies English markings.
How many requirements are in the checklist?
The full checklist has 6 items: 3 apply to every product in this category, 3 apply only in some situations, and 0 are notes rather than steps.
Laboratory tests and their conditions
RF power, bandwidth and spurious emissions; 15B
Ask for the reports below when their stated uses apply to your product.
FCC certification (FCC ID)
Required for this category
FCC Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC)
The host device's digital circuitry
The transmitter needs an FCC ID under Part 15 Subpart C.
Required for this category
Digital circuitry: 15B
Applies only if: your product has digital circuitry.
FCC 26-50: logic chips from Covered List companies are banned, and your online listing must show the FCC ID. If you use a module with an existing modular authorization and integrate it as instructed, label the finished product "Contains FCC ID: [module ID]" and provide a Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) for the host device.
Required for this category
If you develop your own RF circuitry, change the antenna or use an unauthorized module, you must apply for an FCC ID for the finished device. A TCB issues the certification; an FCC-recognized lab does the testing.
Applies only if: you develop your own RF circuitry, change the antenna or use an unauthorized module.
What to look at for this product
If your home wifi camera uses a wireless transmitter, ask your factory for the FCC ID covering the radio installed in the camera.
If your camera has digital host circuitry, request the supplier's declaration covering the camera's host electronics and supplied configuration.
If your camera uses an already authorized radio module, check the module identification and its required host product label with your supplier.
If your camera has a changed antenna or unauthorized radio module, ask your manufacturer about certification for the finished camera configuration.
If your camera is too small for a device marking, ask how the FCC ID will appear in the instructions and packaging.
If your camera has an installed wireless radio, request its test evidence covering power, bandwidth and unwanted emissions for the transmitter fitted inside the housing.
Labels and state rules
Permanently mark the FCC ID on the device. If it is too small, you can put the ID in the instructions and on the packaging.
