Amazon liability insurance changes on November 2: what to have ready

Amazon's commercial liability insurance changes take effect on November 2, 2026. Sellers with products listed in categories with enhanced safety listing requirements must maintain coverage for those products, regardless of monthly sales. The minimum coverage for those products is USD 1 million per occurrence and in aggregate. The change covers both new and existing listings.

Check which requirement affects you

Amazon's announcement names children's products, cosmetic and ingestible products, and lithium battery products as examples, rather than a complete list. Its existing requirement remains: obtain and maintain insurance within 30 days if Amazon.com gross sales proceeds exceed USD 10,000 in any month. Don't use low sales alone to decide whether your listed products need coverage.

Mainland China sellers have an additional change

Sellers based in Mainland China must obtain insurance through Amazon Insurance Accelerator (AIA). A valid third-party policy meeting the coverage requirements and submitted before November 2 can continue until it expires. After that policy expires, its replacement must come through AIA. Check your existing policy's expiry date before arranging its replacement.

Have your certificate ready

Amazon's public renewal guidance says a Certificate of Insurance can be submitted on the Business insurance page in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format. That guidance asks sellers whose certificate has expired or is about to expire to submit a new one. It also says to wait for the first policy to be verified before submitting a second policy.

What you can prepare first

Ask your broker to check the coverage limits against the requirement for the products you list. Review the insured business name and address with your broker, and ask which product documents they need before preparing an application. Amazon's 2022 policy update expressly allowed single-member LLCs to use either their legal entity name or their trade name as the insured name. Ask how that published exception applies to your own paperwork before changing names.

How this page was put together

The effective date comes from Amazon's announcement of the November 2 changes. The certificate formats come from its separate renewal guidance; compare that guidance with the current request before submitting your file.
